Charcoal (Sparkle) Poi
Sparkle poi (also known as charcoal poi) create a stunning storm of glowing embers as you spin them — a wild, random, and hypnotic effect.
⚠️ Warning: Not for beginners! This prop carries increased risks for both the performer and the audience and should only be used by experienced fire artists.
🔥 How It Works
Unlike traditional fire poi, sparkle poi use a metal cage filled with burning charcoal. As you spin, embers escape and float freely, creating a chaotic yet beautiful visual effect — more dynamic than titanium powder on Kevlar.
⚠️ Safety First (Mandatory!)
👕 Protective Clothing
-
Full body coverage — no exposed skin
-
Use natural fiber clothing (cotton etc.)
-
Closed shoes; pants tucked into socks (or wear double pants with base layer tucked in)
-
Thick hoodie or sweater over a tucked-in shirt
-
Safety goggles (clear, not sunglasses)
-
Optional: full face hood, exposing only the eyes
-
Leather gloves recommended
📏 Safety Distance
-
Minimum 10 meters of clear space in every direction!
-
Keep all audience members and performers outside this zone unless fully protected
-
No flammable materials nearby (decorations, dry grass, plants, etc.)
-
Do NOT use in windy conditions — ember direction becomes unpredictable
-
Always inspect the cage before use: ensure the lid closes securely
❗ Gora Professional Fire Gear is not liable for any damage or injury caused by improper or unsafe use.

💡 Usage Tips & Charcoal Prep
-
Charcoal type matters — test different kinds to find your ideal effect
-
Avoid hookah charcoal tablets: expensive, weaker visual
-
Crush regular charcoal into even small pieces
-
Place in a cloth/rug
-
Remove unburnt wood-like pieces
-
Hammer gently to break large chunks
-
Filter out dust and tiny bits that fall through the mesh
-
Effect notes:
-
Smaller pieces = stronger, shorter burn
-
Larger pieces = slower, longer burn
-
Do not use charcoal dust (can be mixed with lycopodium for other effects like Vul-cane)
🔥 Ignition
-
Some users apply lighter fluid (not recommended)
-
Preferred method: Hold the cage over an open flame for 15–30 minutes for maximum ember effect
