🌀 Sufi Dervish Whirling Fire Skirt

The Sufi whirling dance is part of a formal Sufi Islamic ceremony, practiced as a type of physically active meditation. Whirling dervishes spin in repetitive circles to abandon ego and personal desires, seeking trance states to unite with God. The dance has inspired the Egyptian "tanoura" skirt and evolved into a performance art seen worldwide.

🔥 Our Dervish Fire Skirt

• Made from strong black cotton canvas soaked in fire retardant liquid.

• Designed to be worn at the waist, with length down to the floor.

• When spinning, the skirt unfolds into a wide, full horizontal disc.

• A 13 mm wide, 6 m long Kevlar rope is attached by strings to the bottom hem.

• The waist features a velcro closure designed for quick release with a single move.

⚠️ Safety & Usage Recommendations

• Practice extensively before lighting the skirt. Spinning steadily for minutes takes skill.

• Spray the bottom hem with water before use.

• Do NOT wear synthetic clothing underneath.

• Learn to quickly open the velcro waist in one move—practice until instinctive.
  Never light the skirt without mastering this!

• Spin on flat, even ground only. Practice on slightly uneven surfaces (grass) to build ankle strength, but perform only on perfectly flat floors.

• To fuel, unfold the skirt fully into a disc and lay on the ground. Dip the Kevlar with a bottle featuring a small hole on top (like for swords).

• If using a plastic drink bottle, remove labels and mark it clearly to avoid accidental ingestion of fuel.

• Never place burning wicks on the ground – this severely damages Kevlar.

• Prevent any fuel from contaminating the skirt fabric.
  If fuel touches the skirt, do NOT use it! Instead, leave the skirt in direct sunlight for a full day to evaporate fuel.
  Avoid washing to preserve fire retardant treatment.

• Always have a large wet fire blanket, fire extinguisher, and dedicated fire safety person on hand.

• For storage, place the skirt and Kevlar rope in separate bags to prevent fuel transfer.
